SkinMedica launched its Regenerative Science Advisory Board, with the goal of fostering scientific dialogue, sharing clinical best practices and helping to bridge breakthrough research with everyday patient care. Along with the launch of the Regenerative Science Advisory Board, SkinMedica also expanded its research and development (R&D) facility, with the aim to have it support the next generation of science-led innovation. The launch of the advisory board and the expansion of the facility reflect SkinMedica’s commitment to regenerative science and continued investment in research and development.
SkinMedica was founded on the principles of regenerative science, the study of how skin repairs, renews and rebuilds itself. Dr. Prithwiraj Maitra, the Vice President of Global Skincare R&D at Allergan Aesthetics, said that assembling the advisory board was a way for SkinMedica to find out where the science falls short of patient’s needs and challenge what they already know about regenerative science. The collective includes physicians, clinicians and skin health experts, who will collaborate virtually, in-person and through curated content across SkinMedica owned platforms.
“We intentionally assembled a multidisciplinary group of experts spanning dermatology, plastic surgery, aesthetic medicine, and regenerative science. Each member brings a distinct perspective shaped by clinical practice, research, and procedural expertise. Together, they provide a more complete view of skin health, from the underlying biology to the real-world challenges providers and patients face, which allows us to evaluate scientific advances through multiple clinical lenses,” Maitra said.
The input received through the work of the advisory board will set research priorities and develop a pathway built on clinical reality. Maitra added that how discoveries translate into clinical practice and patient outcomes is just as important as scientific discoveries.
“Our advisory board creates a meaningful connection between research and real-world experience, ensuring scientific progress remains grounded in the needs of providers and the patients they treat. For SkinMedica, that collaboration not only helps inform future innovation but also strengthens how we educate healthcare professionals and advance the science of skin health.” Maitra said.
The R&D lab in Irvine, Calif., was enhanced to bring together formulation scientists, clinical experts and biological researchers and is now more than double its previous footprint. This expansion enables the lab to support a broad range of pre-clinical research and imaging technology that will provide deeper insight into skin biology.
"The expanded SkinMedica R&D Lab reflects our commitment to advancing the future of skincare through scientific excellence, strategic collaboration, and emerging technologies," said Maitra. "By integrating advanced research capabilities with AI-enabled discovery and clinical expertise, we are accelerating our ability to transform breakthrough science into meaningful innovations that deliver for patients and providers."
