Another successful IECSC Las Vegas has come and gone, but not without pointing industry pros towards new and exciting trends and ingredients within esthetics.
IECSC Las Vegas brought together hundreds at the Las Vegas Conference Center to participate in three days of professional networking, live treatment demonstrations and education on the latest in skin treatments, science and business. The event featured many brands ready to share their new launches, upcoming news and current initiatives in their respective fields.
While walking the floor, there was a few buzzwords that we couldn't ignore! Buzzwords like skin health, acne and peels will always stay trending in the esthetics sector, but we noticed quite a few new treatments, ingredients and products entering the chat. We've gathered a few of the most intriguing trends to keep an eye out for the rest of 2024 and beyond.
1. Exosomes + Nuerocosmetics
Exosomes and/or exosome therapy is clearing a path to the top of the esthetics industry, with many interested in learning about their potential for skin health and hair regeneration. If this term is new to you, exosomes are described as small carrier vesicles that contain bioactive proteins, growth factors and nucleic acid that provide many skin benefits including promoting cell turnover.1
In the treatment room, exosome therapy is often performed through regenerative microneedling services. This delivery method is helping estheticians quickly heal inflammation, speed up post-procedure recovery time and to rejuvenate the skin. Other benefits can include treating skin hyperpigmentation, signs of aging, boosting skin firmness and increase the production of collagen and elastin. This exciting buzzword was featured by quite a few brands on the show floor, with the most notable being IESkin.
The connection between skin care and the nervous system is referred to as neurocosmetics. Neurocosmetics are formulated with active ingredients that mimic neuromediators involved in the regulation of the main skin functions. The brand Face It Aesthetics features neurocosmetics in their line of skin care to blend clean beauty with clinical care skin care, as well as being featured on the show floor with IESkin.
2. Oxygen-Based Treatments
An oxygen facial is performed to increase collagen production, promote cell turnover and nourish skin through killing bacteria, repairing damaged cells, hydrating and brightening skin and decongesting pores.2 The procedure involves a machine that sprays highly concentrated molecules of oxygen directly into the outer layer of the skin.3
This spa treatment has also gained widespread popularity for its detoxification properties. The application of oxygen and additional vitamins boost skin health, along with reducing the effects of environmental aggressors and sun exposure on the skin. In this process, cells are also repaired and regenerated.
We know that adding oxygen to device based spa services is nothing new, but we noticed a large resurgence in the technology at the IESCS conference, with brands like Glo2Facial offering oxygen-based facials to event goers, and Oxygencueticals, which features post-treatment solution systems that combine the biochemical benefits of pure oxygen with skin care, demonstrating on the show floor.

3. Gentle or No-Downtime Services
The IECSC show floor seemed to have one HUGE overarching theme this year, gentle products and services that have minimal to no downtime post-treatment. One of the largest sectors within this category are peels. An example on the show floor of this includes the Roccoco Botanicals' upcoming Overnight Peel with citrus peel extract that gently exfoliates the skin without causing major irritation.
This recent trend comes as no surprise to most esthetic professionals, as clients continue to pack their schedules, and don't always have time for treatments and products that are harsh or require a lengthy recovery. While many are still interested in medical aesthetic procedures, the downtime required can sometimes be a deterrent, so products that speed up this healing process are also growing in popularity.
Looking forward, we can expect to see more services and products that feature these gentle peel alternatives. With the push for more natural beauty formulations, there will also be a rise in peel products that feature natural ingredients that provide effective results, but are gentler on the skin.
4. Microbiome + Inside Out Wellness
One thing is clear as we move into the end of 2024, clients and pros are interested in treating their skin from the inside-out. This means that there is growing interest in maintaining skin's microbiome, along with healing inner imbalances causing outer ailments on the skin. Many brands on the event's show floor had much to say about healing the skin through total wellness, and taking measures to create a healthy skin barrier and microbiome.
SIV Skincare showcased this with their SIV Biome Balancing Serum, which is the first bioactivated skin care serum that balances skin's unique biome to ensure homeostasis. Repechage performed many facial demonstrations during the conference, and mentioned a newly launched mission for the brand moving forward, "Wellness with Clinical Results." There were also multiple brands sharing education on their skin and wellness supplements like Nutrafol.
This new approach to skin has the industry moving in an exciting direction towards total wellness. While topicals can do wonders for skin, many are realizing that true synergy can be found when the internal body is balanced. Esties can expect to see an uptick in skin supplements, collagen powders and products that build and repair the skin's personal microbiome.
