Unlike other marketing platforms, e-mail marketing has the ability to create deeper connection while also building your know, like and trust factor (KLT Factor). It also allows you to create your online branding asset. Best of all, you own this asset and you can do it at scale. If you do not have a list, do not worry. It’s not too late to start growing your list today. As your list grows, by shear numbers, your conversions will grow. However, remember that it’s not really the size of your list that matters, but the quality of the subscribers. Infuse your personality in your e-mails, have fun and watch your business flourish. Sending e-mails is a great way to stay connected to our clients. Particularly right now, our clients are looking to us for inspiration, information and education!
Growth of E-mail
The first e-mail marketing blast was sent in 1978. The sender was Gary Thuerk, who worked for Digital Equipment Corp. His e-mail blast was sent to 400 recipients as a promotion for his company’s computers, and it resulted in $13 million in sales.1 Considering inflation, that’s equivalent to about $78.8 million today. Wow! Talk about an amazing ROI! Hotmail is said to have sparked the explosion of e-mail marketing for the masses.
In 2020, the number of e-mail users climbed to 4 billion. That means over 50% of the world’s population is already using e-mail!2 Since the global pandemic started, remote work and online interactions have surged, and the volume of e-mails grew 7%, compared to 2.5% in 2019. The highest increases in volume were reported in March and July of 2020.3
Considering how many people use e-mail, it should not be surprising the number of e-mails is as high as 3 million per second. The latest report for 2021 suggests 319.6 billion per day. This figure includes both consumer and business e-mails. In 2022, the number of e-mails sent daily will grow by 4.3%, resulting in 333.2 billion e-mails a day. By 2025, the number of e-mails in daily circulation should stand at 376.4 billion.4
