During Be+Well Florida, Skin Inc. had the opportunity to speak with Dr. John Aylworth, CEO and Founder of FactorFive Skincare about the brand, how it educates estheticians to combat misinformation and what’s next for the brand.
Aylworth started FactorFive Skincare in 2015 because of his passion for translating advancements in stem cells use from the lab to the real world. Adult stem cells are the main active ingredient in all of FactorFive’s products.
“The stem cells have been shown to be effective in treating just about everything. They’re at the heart of healing,” he said.
Because of adult stem cells’ capabilities for effective treatment and healing, FactorFive believed it could utilize it in any product for any skincare issue people might have.
Aylworth said that not all growth factors are created equally and there is a hierarchy of efficacy. He said that human-derived stem cell growth factors are at the top and are most efficacious on human skin. He said that while there are a lot of conversations around exosomes and growth factors, he said this is a great time for educational opportunities to combat some of the misinformation that exists around exosomes and growth factors.
“One, for example, is that exosomes do not survive in a liquid format at room temperature, they just don’t,” he said. “So, any company saying they have an exosome serum that’s on the shelf; they just don’t survive.”
Aylworth said that exosomes need to be frozen at -80 degrees celsius or you can freeze dry them or lyophilize them.
FactorFive launched a backbar series of products and is lowering the price of some of its products. The back bar products include FactorFive’s Gel Cleanser, Post-Treatment Serum, Regenerative Serum and Silk. Factor Five is also launching a hair restoration line to go along with the shampoo the company launched, which will round out its response to the hair market.
