California Clients Can Earn $100,000 to Become Estheticians

Check out this California initiative that gives clients interested in pursuing spa careers the chance to earn large scholarships toward their goals. If you are a California spa with clients that fit the bill, advise them to sign up--and hurry, because the deadline for applications is March 30, 2010.

The beauty industry continues to thrive despite economic woes according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics that predict it will grow nationwide by 12%, even exceeding the average growth rate for all other occupations by almost 20%. To help San Diegans take advantage of incredible career opportunities, beauty schools the Bellus Academy in Poway, California, JE Boutique in El Cajon, California and Bay Vista in Chula Vista, California have partnered with premier Southern California spas and salons for the $1 Million "We Love Our Jobs" scholarship pledge. Participating spas and salons have the opportunity to sponsor $100,000 each in scholarships to give to clients interested in pursuing a career in beauty and wellness.

"Job loss and pay cuts have forced many San Diegans to consider a new career. Beauty should be at the top of their list because we not only affect how clients feel about themselves when they look in the mirror, statistics prove it can be extremely lucrative," said Lynelle Lynch, president of Bellus Academy. "In California, there is a high demand for skilled cosmetologists. Almost 70% of spa and salon operators say they are unable to find qualified applicants to hire. This means jobs are immediately available upon graduation with the right skills and advanced training."

According to the U.S. Department of Labor:

  • Salon professionals can average up to a $50,000 annual salary, including tips.
  • Estheticians can expect almost a 38% increase in job openings.

Let clients know about the benefits of a career in beauty or ask them to visit www.weloveourjobs.com for details. A selection committee comprised of Bellus Academy management and spa and salon professionals that refer prospective students will review all eligible applications. The scholarships will be applied towards tuition and education expenses owed to the school. The scholarship will be credited to the student’s account at the school. Applicants must apply by March 30, 2010.
