In light of recent sexual abuse allegations, Massage Envy announced the brand’s new six-point plan to address client and therapist safety in conjunction with the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN). RAINN will perform an end-to-end review of Massage Envy policies and procedures to include awareness, outreach, education, training, hiring, screening, reporting and investigation.
“We’ve seen that no matter how strong our policies are, there’s always more we can do,” said Joe Magnacca, CEO of Massage Envy. “That’s what led us to develop our Commitment to Safety plan and to enlist the support of RAINN as an advisor and partner. We are confident that we have an approach that will sustain the trust and confidence of members, guests and therapists.”
In response to the 180 sexual assault civil suits, police reports and complaints to state boards filed in November 2017, the brand says RAINN will be represented on the new Massage Envy Safety Advisory Council and will advise the brand in implementing strong safety and support standards in addition to recommending changes.
“We truly wish we could stop this kind of behavior from happening to anyone, anywhere in this industry,” Magnacca said. “We’ll never stop listening, we’ll never stop learning, and we’ll never waiver in our heartfelt commitment to keep people safe.”
