With its recent approval by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use in correcting facial wrinkles and folds, Juvéderm Vollure XC is the most recent dermal filler to offer longer-lasting results. The latest member of the Allergan family uses VYCROSS technology for specialized smooth-gel properties and longer results.
“These are the next generation of hyaluronic-acid gel products and extremely effective when used by an experienced injector.” Jill Caruso, board-certified esthetic nurse specialist
Board-certified esthetic nurse specialist, Jill Caruso, said Vollure XC and its counterparts are great options for patients to look and feel their best.
“These are the next generation of hyaluronic-acid gel products and extremely effective when used by an experienced injector,” she explained. “Vollure is also the first hyaluronic-acid gel dermal filler to be FDA approved to last up to 18 months for mild to severe wrinkles and folds.”
Vollure XC has been cleared for use in patients over the age of 21, but Caruso notes that the ideal patient age range may be ages 30 to 55. However, as with other fillers, results depend on the individual.
Hot for Hyaluronic Acid
A study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that dermal fillers, like Juvéderm, saw a 10% increase in 2016, with nearly 2.5 million hyaluronic acid-based injectable procedures being performed within the same year.
For medical spa professionals, this comes as no surprise.
“People are more educated and informed about minimally invasive procedures, such as dermal fillers and neurotoxins,” Caruso said of patients in the social media age. “I think these products have become more mainstream, and people know they can be treated, but still look like themselves—prettier versions of themselves!”
A clinical study of Juvéderm Vollure XC involving 123 subjects resulted in a 93% satisfaction rate with treatment results six months after injection, and 68% satisfaction 18 months after injection.
