Functionality has never looked better at Silver Mirror Facial Bar. The fast facial concept, turned multiple location brand, has designed a space that prioritizes its staff as much as the guest’s experience. We sat down with Matt Maroone, co-founder of Silver Mirror Facial Bar, to discuss the unique features that make their locations so successful, and how they equip their estheticians with what they need to provide the best results.

1. Tell us about the aesthetic of your spa’s interior and the emotion you are looking to evoke from customers?
Our approach is focused on luxury, specifically tailored to facial treatments. We aim for efficiency without making the experience feel rushed. The ambiance strikes a balance between a medical spa and a luxury salon, emphasizing impeccable cleanliness. Our goal is for guests to concentrate solely on achieving the best results for their skin.
2. What inspired your design components and process?
We were the first luxury facial bar in New York City, opening our inaugural location in May 2016. Our design was conceived by Josh Heitler, the original architect for DryBar, along with architect Allison Adderley. They have continued to design and build all of our locations for over seven and a half years. Their vision focused on striking a balance between offering a top-tier experience for guests and equipping estheticians with the elements they require for success, all within the constraints of limited New York City real estate. It was a challenging task, but they executed it flawlessly.

3. What is the most important thing to remember when designing a successful spa space?
It’s crucial to equip our estheticians with all the tools they might need to perform world-class facials within a limited 30- or 50-minute time frame. While we never want the experience to feel rushed, we recognize that our guests’ time is valuable and limited. Unlike cheaper facial bars that are now emerging, we spare no expense in providing our estheticians with every possible tool and advantage. This starts with constructing an industry-leading facility.
4. Does your spa have any unique features or design aspects?
Firstly, we invest in custom woodworking for all our treatment stations. These stations are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also highly functional. They allow our estheticians to use water freely and easily, a feature rarely found in other facial bars. Additionally, we have towel warmers and ample electrical capacity for the various devices we use. To enhance the guest experience, we separate treatment areas with luxury curtains, offering privacy without compromising the focus on achieving skin care results.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is designing their spa’s interior?
Design your spa with functionality in mind to enable your estheticians and team to succeed. If you provide your team with all the tools and resources they need to excel, your guests will ultimately benefit in the long run.
