The Spa at Cliff House in Cape Neddick, Maine is offering guests treatments aligned with the seasons—in the celestial sense.

The Salt of the Sea series, synced with the moon’s cycles, features a massage with warm, hand-carved stones from Saltability and essential oil blends selected to represent each season, moving the body’s energetic pathways. There is a variation for each season.

“This treatment was born from reluctance of providing traditional ‘seasonal’ treatments like pumpkin body wraps and peppermint pedicures, which have their place, but it didn’t fit with the natural connection to nature that we embrace at the spa,” said Dawn Page, spa director at The Spa at Cliff House.

Each season is associated with a particular element, which is then incorporated into massage techniques that suite the nature of that element. Winter, identified with water, has a treatment which remineralizes the body with stone made from ancient sea salt and complimenting oils with marine extracts. Sound therapy, through Tibetan bowls tuned to the heart, promote “letting heaviness leave the body and inviting wholeness to enter.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the summer treatment, associated with fire, includes vigorous, energy inducing massage strokes in an upward motion and an essential oil blend of lemon, basil, rosemary and ginseng.

“Effectively, a guest could come to our spa five times in one year, and (the Salt of the Sea experience) would be different each time,” Page adds.

“I love seeing our products used to their fullest potential, and the Salt of the Sea series is such a creative way to help clients better connect with nature, the season and themselves,” said Ann Brown, Saltability founder and CEO. “Not only does the series highlight the versatility of our Himalayan salt stone product, but it also showcases the knowledge and creativity that drive our industry.”
