Maintaining a healthy diet and exercising are essential parts of maintaining healthier skin. Adding a few skin care steps to an exercise routine can help keep skin healthy and avoid clogged pores from sweat and bacteria, per an article from CNN.

Cleansing skin is the most important step in an exercise routine to maintain healthy skin. When working out, sweat, oil and bacteria can lead to clogged pores, inflammation, acne and breakouts if not cleansed afterward, according to Shereene Idriss, M.D., founder of Idriss Dermatology in New York City and creator of the #pillowtalkderm series on Instagram. It is also important to cleanse the skin before working out to prevent clogged pores.

When working out in the morning or daytime, it is important to use a water- and sweat-resistant SPF after cleansing to protect skin from any environmental aggressors or UV rays. If working out later in the day, Idriss recommends removing any makeup before working out to avoid clogging pores.

Post-workout, it is recommended to proceed with the typical day or nighttime skin care routine depending on the time of day.
