Common triggers include hot water, stress and dry air, which can't always be controlled. However, Healthline has curated a list of irritants that clients can cut from their routines to help avoid flare-ups.

This includes:

  • fragrance (both synthetic and natural),

  • urea,

  • retinoids,

  • cocamidopropyl betaine,

  • antibacterial ointments and wipes.

Other ingredients to watch out for include lanolin, which is made from sheep's wool and propylene glycol, which are both found in moisturizers can cause allergic reactions.
