Before Beverly Fox-Crismond became a licensed massage therapist, she met her boss and mentor, Ed Curtis while working in physical therapy. Working for such a compassionate man influenced her greatly, and it was not long in her training with massage where she fell in love with it. In 2011, Fox-Crismond became the spa director for One Ocean Resort & Spa by Remington Hotels (Atlantic Beach, Florida) and has assisted with the opening of numerous spas in the group’s portfolio.

Q: What inspires you?

A: “At the age of 35, I was diagnosed with cancer. My battle was long and hard, but the support I got not only from family and friends, but my clients too, truly inspires me. It was very humbling. I stay inspired knowing the battle I went through and the battle that so many others must face. I love the quote: ‘You never know how strong you are until being strong is all you have.’”

Giving treatments

“I love giving my clients scalp massages; it sets the tone for a massage and helps to relax everyone.”

Choosing skin care

“I wanted to be in an industry where I would be helping people. I guess that is why my first thought was to become a physical therapist. I have received so much gratification from being in the spa industry that I truly could not see myself doing anything different.”

Receiving treatments

“I love a great scrub in a true Vichy room. The sounds, the smells and all that warm water—so relaxing!”

Client feedback

“I think the one thing I hear most consistently from clients that have never had a spa service before is that they cannot understand why they waited so long to try it.”

Staying current

“I am always reading any trade magazine I can find. Also, I do a lot of research on the Internet and find [the International Spa Association] a very good tool for anything in our industry.”
