#10Things That Keep You Motivated

In August 2018, I spoke at the Face &Body Northern California. Many of the people I spoke to during the weekend asked me how I stay motivated and inspired. So, here at #10things that I do to stay motivated.

1. Create your wake up call.

If you use your phone, set your alarm to a motivational phrase or song. Nothing is motivating about waking up to the word alarm or the beep-beep-beep! As a side note, make sure the wi-fi is off while you’re sleeping.

2. Power of thought.

First thing in the morning, ask yourself what you are excited about. Avoid telling yourself you are tired or thinking about your checklist. The first thought should be positive.

3. Cool rinse.

When I’m feeling a little slow, I’ll end my warm shower with a cool rinse. It releases the cobwebs from my brain, gets my blood flowing and increases my energy. I know it sounds horrible, but you’ll feel great.

4. Listen to motivation.

As an entrepreneur, one of my favorite podcasts is How I Built This with Guy Raz. It features stories about business builders with struggles just like us.

5. Have a theme song.

I always have a song that when I’m feeling down, I can turn on full volume and sing/dance to. Music is an instant mood lifter.

6. Filter friends.

Keep people in your life that inspire you and increase your drive. Foster relationships that are healthy and filter those that create stress, anxiety and drama. Sometimes this includes family too.

7. Find art.

Go to the museum, the ballet, the opera, jazz festival or gallery. Even if you don’t know what you are looking at, you’ll feel inspired by the energy and commitment of the artists.

8. Exercise.

Do something. Move to a sweat. Increase your heart rate and breathe.

9. Avoid sugar.

Inflammatory foods can cause you to feel sluggish.

10. Remember the why.

What or who are you working so hard for? I think about building a future for my son, taking care of my team and the potential of my students. That motivates me to keep on going.
