Pregnancy signifies a special time when a little R&R goes a long way. Moms-to-be enduring back pain, swollen feet and an expanding belly are in need of extra care, and spas are an ideal place to receive wellness-oriented services (not to mention, some extra pampering).
As spas update their menus with special treatments and all-inclusive packages, they are wise to consider the expectant mom as an essential customer: one that offers the potential for repeat business as her pregnancy unfolds. Here are four spas that have addressed this customer base with dedicated services.
Fountains Day Spa
With more than 45 years in business, Fountains Day Spa in Alexandria, Va., has established a reputation as a premium center for prenatal and postpartum care. “Our services emphasize relaxation, comfort and address the unique physical and emotional changes experienced during pregnancy,” says spa director Tina Hudson.
Treatments for expectant mothers include a prenatal massage, designed to relieve tension, reduce swelling and improve circulation, and facials that incorporate soothing ingredients to hydrate and rejuvenate skin. Fountains also offers its Nurture Yourself Prenatal Package, comprised of a 50-minute lavender pregnancy massage and a 50-minute Guinot Hydra Summum Facial. Additional prenatal packages combine assorted treatments, including massages, facials and foot care, for the ultimate pampering. “Each service is designed with the health and comfort of expectant mothers in mind, ensuring that they can enjoy a peaceful and rejuvenating experience while preparing for the arrival of their little ones,” says Hudson.
New moms are enticed to return to Fountains after giving birth with the Stress Buster Package. This special offering includes a massage, Guinot Hydradermie facial and reflexology. “Each component is designed to provide essential support and foster a sense of recovery and rejuvenation after the challenges of childbirth,” says Hudson.
DuBunné Day Spa
Visitors to DuBunné Day Spa in Torrance, Calif., feel like they are part of a special club. When registering for the Wellness Club Membership, prenatal and postpartum customers can take advantage of a myriad of benefits for continuous services. Moms-to-be are entitled to discounted sideline massages with optional upgrades, and new mothers receive facials or massages customized for their post-pregnancy needs. “With perks like priority booking and exclusive seasonal upgrades, it’s a simple and rewarding way to stay well before and after baby,” says owner Jessica Samples.
Focused on prenatal care for the past 15 years, DuBunné has tweaked its menu to best meet the evolving needs of its clientele. Treatments are featured on the company website, with additional marketing for Mother’s Day and other seasonal wellness packages. Targeted email campaigns, Google ads and social media also keep DuBunné front and center with prospective customers.
Among the offerings catering to expectant moms is a prenatal massage utilizing side-lying positions and supportive bolsters. “Light to moderate pressure helps alleviate common pregnancy discomforts, promote circulation and encourage deep relaxation,” notes Samples. A more comprehensive offering is the Mommy-to-Be Package, featuring a 50-minute sideline prenatal massage along with a 45-minute organic, customizable facial. “It’s the perfect way to support both emotional and physical wellness during pregnancy,” she adds.
Basalt Day Spa
This fall marks Basalt Day Spa’s tenth year of serving the greater Salt Lake City, Utah, community, where prenatal and postpartum services get equal attention. “Being a new mom is exhausting and demanding,” says owner Jasmine Percy. “Spa treatments offer precious time to unwind, de-stress and focus on your own well-being, which is essential for physical and mental health during such an intense time.”
Basalt’s prenatal treatment menu features 60- and 90-minute massages that incorporate a hydrating oil blend, organic carrot seed, cocoa butter and rosemary belly balm. The spa’s signature 75-minute Rejuvenate Facial uses bamboo, rose petals and rose quartz to help decongest surface debris, while a fruit enzyme peel enhances skin tone and texture. A face, neck and shoulder massage is followed by a French clay and oxygen-infused masque to detoxify skin. A cooling collagen masque and ice globe therapy complete this treatment.
Basalt's customers can purchase the Erbaviva organic skin care enjoyed during their prenatal massage at the spa boutique, and after experiencing childbirth, customers can return to the spa for the Keep Calm & Carry On package, a 2 ½-hour booking that includes a full-body exfoliating scrub, massage and glow facial.
The Sanctuary Day Spa
Pregnant women in search of relaxation can put their feet up and indulge their senses at The Sanctuary Day Spa in Tampa, Fla. After merging with neighboring Enchanteria Day Spa in 2023, this facility began offering a Mom-to-Be package, which co-owner AnnaMarie Caras describes as “the perfect blend of care and indulgence for expecting mothers.” A 60-minute prenatal massage aims to relieve muscle tension, setting the right mood for a relaxing pedicure. Customers are also treated to a charcuterie plate and hydrating beverages for the ultimate nurturing spa experience.
All Sanctuary services can be booked individually, and the prenatal massage can be upgraded to 90 minutes as desired. Caras markets the spa’s customizable offerings via social media and weekly emails and also informs customers of special offerings during their visit.
In fact, customer service is something upon which the spa prides itself; clients are rewarded with a 20% discount on their next treatment when referring a friend. “It’s the best way for the spa to gain exposure to our dream clients,” she says.
