The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy (CRSMT) announced a continuing education retreat in Samara, Costa Rica, focused on prenatal massage therapy. The course aims to teach students the benefits of maternity massage therapy care during all phases of pregnancy, labor and postpartum, per an article from the Digital Journal.

The 32-hour course is spread over five days and also includes amenities and tours of Samara. All certified or licensed massage therapists are welcome to attend the retreat to learn and grow as massage therapists.

The educational retreat will demonstrate more than 30 specific pregnancy massage techniques, including the five specific labor support techniques. The course will also educate students on ways to increase their clients’ kinesthetic awareness, postural integrity and breathing in preparation for the experience of giving birth, according to the article.

CRSMT describes the retreat as providing education on “the physiological, anatomical and functional changes to a woman’s body during the childbearing year…assessment and adaptations for medically complicated and high-risk pregnancies will be discussed.”

The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy is the top study-abroad program for massage therapists, according to the article.
