Q. Where can I get education on Brazilians with limited funds?
A. Brazilian waxing is not always covered at length in esthetics school. This leaves newly licensed estheticians to seek continued education for additional knowledge and practice with this skill-set, oftentimes with little funds.
Waxing is a skill-set that requires estheticians to invest in education and knowledge. After gaining the knowledge, you must also commit patience and practice to fine-tune the service. Just trying to “wing it” could cause a boatload of problems, including:
- Harming a client;
- Lowering client retention;
- Getting sued; or
- Developing a bad reputation.
I remember how terrified I was when a client booked an appointment with me for my first Brazilian bikini wax. This was 15 years ago, and Samantha from Sex And The City had just made Brazilian bikini waxing known to all. Unfortunately, there were no official training courses available like there is today.
Long story short, I have always been resourceful and knew I needed some hands-on training, so a fellow esthetician friend and I hired an experienced esthetician to show us the ropes.
Times have changed, and now there are incredible resources out there including trade show educational demos, online training certifications and traveling wax educators who share their experience and knowledge.
If I haven’t yet convinced you to put available funds into waxing education, here are three reasons to invest in Brazilian bikini waxing training.
1. It Pays For Itself. With one to two new clients, you have made your investment back. If you approach Brazilian waxing with knowledge and confidence, these customers will most likely become monthly repeat clients. Once they trust you to wax this area, they will start doing other services and treatments with you. Once you create a safe and pleasant environment for your existing clients, you heighten your chance of receiving referrals from them.
2. Adverse Events Are Reduced. I recently read a story about an esthetician who was sued for $15,000 because she caused a client extreme discomfort during a bikini wax. Estheticians who are properly trained will be less likely to encounter skin damage and lawsuits in their practice.
3. You Can Make More Money. By investing in yourself and your education, you improve your skill-set and become more specialized. Therefore, you earn the right to charge more for your time.
