How is it possible that we are already at the end of 2018? ‘Tis the season to be thankful! Here are #10things you can be thankful for as an industry professional.

1. Spa growth.

The U.S. spa industry saw a 4.3% increase in 2017.1 Also, 38% of those that have never had a facial are listing skin services as the wellness treatment they are most likely to try next.2

2. In-person need.

With all the gadgets sold online and in stores, nothing compares to the essential role an esthetician plays in skin care. We are a long way away from a robot taking our place.

3. Local value.

Even if a large company owns the spa you work in, it’s managed and serviced locally. This brings economic value to the community it serves.

4. License to touch.

In a world where technology is separating the human experience, skin therapists are needed more than ever. Humans are tribal people, and we need physical touch. You can order almost everything online, but our services still remain hands-on.

5. Impact.

We make a difference physically and emotionally. We all have our stories of prepping a bride for her wedding, clearing up acne for an executive and assisting a client through the skin challenges of everything from pregnancy to cancer. Our services are more than skin deep.

6. Giving back.

Having a vocational craft gives us the ability to donate our services and offer gift certificates to charities and local nonprofits at little cost.

7. Flexible schedule.

People want us every day and at all hours. There is never a wrong time for a skin treatment.

8. Client choice.

No one is forced to see an esthetician; they choose to spend time and money with us. It’s a privilege to be chosen and an honor to serve clients. “Oh no, I’m so upset that I have facial today, said no one ever!

9. Demand is growing.

People are starting services at a younger age and living longer.

10. Excitement.

Our industry is constantly changing. New ingredients, treatments, scientific discoveries and technology advances keep this field interesting. There is always something new to learn. For example, who would have thought the lash extension craze would have been so popular? What do you think will be next?

These #10things are the reasons we entered this industry. Take this list and post it in the breakroom at your spa or inside a cabinet in your treatment room. Thank your clients, your co-workers and family. Enjoy this season of thanks!
