Helping inform women about skin care is something brands are working toward. According to the NPD Group's Women’s Facial Skincare Consumer Report 2017, one-quarter of U.S. women said they prefer to purchase skin care as a regimen or kit.
Skin care kits provide the end-user with a a trial period to test out products on the skin and view the results. Some spas will sell gift sets based around a theme such as superfoods or beauty remedies.
Specialty retailers have also started to focus on skin care and have developed themed gift regimens, such as skin care for makeup lovers, skin care to create a glow and other sets containing full-sized masks and trial-sized regimens focusing on specific skin issues.
While the month of December is important to the beauty market, it accounts for only 14% of prestige skin care's yearly volume, according to NPD. Spas, salons and retailers responding with kits and regimens can help benefit the market in the long run.
