Face & Body Midwest will take place on July 28-29, 2019 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. As always, Face & Body and Skin Inc. Magazine are putting education at the forefront and that is why we're bringing our Spa Pods back with new educators, new topics and new educational opportunities.

We are offering four different spa pods during Sunday, July 28, 2019. Two pods will be offered in the morning and two will be offered in the afternoon.

Spa Pod: Products

To Sunscreen or Not to Sunscreen, 8:00 - 9:00 am, Lori Hoepner

Lori Hoepner, DrPH, MPH, assistant professor of environmental and occupational health sciences, will present the fundamentals of each compelling sun-related issue. Contradictory information about sun exposure will be compared, and Hoepner will discuss the long-term effects of sun exposure in childhood. Attention will be given to the increased marketing of SPF in cosmetics. Guidance will be provided on what consumers should be paying attention to when they purchase SPF-containing skincare and other products

Create Your Own Blending Bar with Therapeutic Essential Oils, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Kim Manley

As skin care professionals, our clients come to us for our expertise. Kim Manley, founder KM Herbals, will show how to create simple therapeutic essential oil blends tailored specifically for your client’s needs. She will discuss unscented bases, carrier oils and dilutions, along with practical applications for your treatment rooms. This class will inspire skin care professionals, massage therapists and all holistic practitioners.

Spa Pod: Wellness

Rejuvenating Facial Massage, 8:00 - 9:00 am, Dale Montelione Grust

Dale Montelione Grust, founder Center for Therapeutic Massage/CoreStones, will show how you can set yourself apart from other practitioners by learning how to combine the use of stones both warm and cold into your facial routine. This comprehensive training combines the best of both worlds–rejuvenating facial massage plus remedial massage of the neck and face. Grust will specifically work with the muscles of the jaw, face and neck to address tension held in these areas. Students will learn how to heat or cool stones to the proper temperature to achieve the desired therapeutic outcome.

Spa, Wellness and CBD, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Sherrie Tennessee

With the passing of the 2018 Congressional Farm Bill, hemp was legalized in all 50 states of the U.S. as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. As a result of the legalization, hemp and the component CBD is expected to increase in sales by 700% from 2016 to 2020. Sherrie Tennesse, education director SpaSOS, will be discussing how the result of scientific research has pushed the demand for CBD based products as well as the benefits of CBD and how it is being used int he spa industry.

Spa Pod: Aging

Menopause: A Visit From the Hormone Fairy, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Lori Caruso

Menopause triggers a great influx in hormones that can wreak havoc on your clients' skin, hair, body and overall wellness. Lori Caruso, licensed esthetician will discuss the importance of understanding not only what hormones are affecting the system but how they are affecting the body, so you can come up with a treatment plan to help your client feel and look better. Caruso will cover why you need to understand the role hormones and our endocrine system plays in the health of the skin.

Rejuvenation of the Aging Face, 5:30 - 6:30 pm, Dawn Ahearn

Visible aging is a concern for many patients, and as a clinician, your patients will seek recommendations from you for the most effective age control skin care products and treatments. Dawn Ahearn, national educator PCA Skin focuses on aging skin, including presentations, treatment methods and the many different cosmeceutical ingredients and their specific mechanisms of action in this comprehensive class. After attending this course, you will be able to identify the most beneficial and multi-faceted ingredients and treatments to recommend to your patients. You will also increase your ability to determine the safety and efficacy of currently available skin care products.

Spa Pod: BossBabe

Self Care for the Caring Professional, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Angela Rozzi-Burns

You can't pour from an empty cup. Angela Rozzi-Burns, owner Rejuvenate Skincare and Peel Barre, will discuss how skipping self-care is a detriment not only of themselves but the people closest to them. Rozzi-Burns will teach the importance of self-care for the caring professional and how simple acts of self-kindness help you stay at the top of your game for years to come.

The #Bossbabe's Guide to Building a Better Biz, 5:30 - 6:30 pm, Annet King

Being the Boss today is no joke, whether you work on your own or have a small army of service providers. In this lets-get-real session, Annet King, VP of Business Development Bio-Therapeutic, shows you some of the major “how-to’s” to keep moving your business forward, whether you are a party of one or a multi location empire. King teaches you how to spot talent and delegate more and how to focus on the areas that matter and will provide the best “gains” for your business.

The Highs and Lows of Laser Ablation, 8:00 - 9:00 am, Alan Durkin

Alan Durkin, M.D., plastic surgeon Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery and MedSpa will discuss the evolution of intense pulsed light through the last 30 years and discuss the advances in laser therapy as well. Durkin will provide an individual platform evaluation, stating the pros and cons for each existing FDA approved laser platform available today in the North American market.

Top 10 Traits of a Successful Medspa, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Alex Thiersch

Alex R. Thiersch, CEO AmSpa, will show you the 10 things that successful medical spas do to stand out while remaining profitable, compliant and competitive. Thiersch will show you the most common traits that dictate success in the extremely lucrative medical spa industry.

Spa Pod: Pigmentation

Pigmentation Solutions, 8:00 - 9:00 am, Shannon Esau

Not all pigment is created equal? Shannon Esau, director of education and sales Rhonda Allison, will explore one of the most challenging skin conditions facing estheticians–hyperpigmentation. Learn about the process known as melanogenesis, along with the key concepts behind sun-induced, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Discover specific lightening ingredients that reduce pigmentation and how they do it. Esau will show you how to combat pigmentation through the use of chemical peels, enzymes and home care, all while strengthening the skin.

Camouflage Makeup for Severe Skin Discolorations, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Jill Glaser

Many clients will come to you who have severe skin discolorations due to such conditions, for example as vitiligo, hyperpigmentation and melasma. Jill Glaser, Founder Makeup First School and Makeup Artistry, will show certain techniques for applying camouflage makeup to even the skin tone. Glaser will demonstrate the techniques and specific opaque products, which will include a presentation of both manual and airbrush makeup for camouflaging severe skin discolorations.

Spa Pod: Biology

Sensitive Skin 101, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Regina Tucker

Regina Tucker, L.E., creative director CRU-MM Skin + Beauty, will address the complexities of treating sensitive skin, the science behind it, how to identify it, comfortably work with it and design treatments specifically to address the skin care concerns of this population. Tucker will show you the science behind sensitive skin during this class.

Culprits Under the LASH!, 5:00 - 6:00 pm, Ingryd Lorenzana and Vanessa Bui

In this class, Ingryd Lorenzana, Optometrist Advanced Vision and Wellness Center, and Vanessa Bui, esthetician Advanced Vision and Wellness Center, will discuss key culprits that cause eye and lid irritation costing you chair time. They will provide strategies to screen for signs and symptoms that cause eye irritation and introduce health-conscious prevention tools that deliver healthy lash beauty and wellness. Lorenzana and Bui will place emphasis on the most common eye health conditions that cause irritation and methods of instrument disinfection, sanitation and sterilization to prevent contamination.

Spa Pod: Facial

The Holistic Acne Facial, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Lisa Stewart

Lisa Stewart, owner Solia Spa and creator Peri Skin Care will show how you can help your clients from years of skin issues relating to acne and other skin inflammation through knowledge of healthy guts. What goes on in our gut shows up in our skin. Stewart will discuss the important factors to look for on the skin that the gut is triggering, what foods cause acne and how to manage your clients' acne once they are off medication.
 

Treating Extremely Dry and Dehydrated Skin, 5:00 - 6:00 pm, Elina Fedotova

Elina Fedotova, founder Elina Organic Skincare, will be going through how complexions can be stripped of moisture due to weather, harsh chemicals in skin care products or a compromised skin barrier and microbiome. Fedotova will discuss and demonstrate how to recognize the root causes of dry skin. She will then show participants how to select and perform customized holistic skin care protocols resulting in deep, corrective results for clients who suffer from dry skin.
