Our industry is evolving, and it’s time to challenge yourself to explore something new. We are happier skin therapists and deliver better service when we are constantly learning. Here are #10things to learn right now.
1. Update massage techniques.
Clients enjoy the relaxing benefits of massage integrated into services. Learn a new technique that benefits AND relaxes them, such as acupressure and manual lymphatic drainage.
1. Review skin analysis.
Gather information on skin conditions vs. skin types, water dry vs. oil dry, inflammatory conditions vs. environmentally sensitized, etc. from reliable sources and test your knowledge.
3. Get into ingredients
Understand the ingredients in your product line and be able to explain what is natural vs. organic. Clients believe they are ingredient savvy. Study protocols and know the “why” behind your treatments.
4. Brush up on makeup.
Take a makeup class. Fuller brows are in this spring and summer. Be prepared to consult with your client on how to achieve this look with hair removal, growth or a brow kit.
5. Become a mixologist.
Do you know how to cocktail your products to create specialized treatments for your guest? Sign up for a product knowledge class and ask your educator about creating customized services.
6. Gain nutrition information.
Learn how food can help with your clients’ skin conditions. Remember you’re a skin therapist and need additional training to offer nutritional advice.
7. Review tools of the trade.
When used properly, tools such as LED, microcurrent, microdermabrasion, electrophoresis and light rejuvenation can elevate the experience and results of a professional treatment.
8. Learn lash extensions.
Lash enhancement clients are committed to this service and the market base is building. Estheticians performing lash services enjoy this skillful/tedious task, but it’s not for everyone.
9. Incorporate ancient healing.
Study aromatherapy, traditional Chinese medicine or Ayurveda, and incorporate them into your treatments.
10. Harness social media.
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Yelp and Linkedin have online webinars on how they can grow your business profile. Choose one social media platform and study the benefits. Your clientele might already have a favorite—just ask.
