California has lifted some COVID-19 restrictions to allow 25% indoor capacity for services that require touching a person's face such as facials, waxing, nail services, tattoos, piercing, massage therapy and electrolysis as of October 20, 2020.
With this announcement, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) worked with the governor's office to create a roadmap for all sectors of the professional beauty industry.
The PBA's roadmap includes guidelines for salons and spas to help maintain a safe work environment. Some measures include:
- required face masks
- removing coffee and amenity stations
- installing Plexiglas or acrylics partitions
- increased sensitization
- staggering appointments
- waiting in cars instead of lobby
The PBA, in association with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), has also launched its GBAC STAR accreditation program. GBAC was created to specifically deal with pandemics with absolute effectiveness and integrity and ensure the highest degree of safety for everyone.
Steve Sleeper, executive director of the PBA said, “Collaboration, data, and personal member stories have helped to ensure the professional beauty industry has been thoroughly represented with the state of California. We will continue to work with the state to ensure that the industry maintains its representation and empowerment as we head into the winter months.”
