Natural Certification Program and Seal Launched

Citing widespread consumer confusion about what constitutes a natural personal care product, the Natural Products Association launched its Natural Certification Program and Seal of Approval on May 1.

NPA spokesperson Daniel Fabricant, PhD, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs, said the program is not a safety standard but is meant to make it easy to truly identify natural personal care products. Under the new standard, a product must be made up of at least 95% truly natural ingredients or ingredients derived from natural sources to earn the seal.

The full set of criteria can be found on the NPA Web site.
