Strata Skin Sciences won FDA 510(k) clearance for its Xtrac Momentum excimer laser system.

Strata Skin Sciences has announced FDA 510(k) clearance for Xtrac Momentum, the brand’s excimer laser system for treating psoriasis vitiligo, eczema, atopic dermatitis and leukoderma, according to an article on Mass Device.

The Xtrac laser delivers a highly targeted therapeutic beam of UVB light for the treatment of skin diseases and is made in three platforms with Ultra, Velocity and the newly added Momentum, to offer functionality and usability, according to the article.

Strata’s Momentum platform’s FDA clearance marks the first full platform clearance since 2010 with Velocity, Mass Device reports. Xtrac Momentum features additional features like a new proprietary short-hair tip to treat scalp psoriasis, an increased power range and an enhanced interface and database.

“Our R&D team is continually working to improve our systems and devices, and we are now beginning to see the fruits of that labor with our second 510(k) clearance in the last two years and first full Xtrac platform clearance since 2010,” Strata president and CEO Dolev Rafaeli, Ph.D., stated in the news release. “Strata and its Xtrac Excimer laser platforms dominate the dermatology global marketplace, further distancing Strata from other excimer platforms that have not improved their specifications in over 12 years. We look forward to additional advances and clearances as our team continues to expand the capabilities of this technology platform.”
