Younger consumers are more social media savvy and swayed by influencers when choosing their beauty products. While younger generations spark trends, men are interested in skin care and aesthetics more than ever across several generations. Here are some facial skin care treatments I wish I knew about when I was in my twenties.
1. Facial Masks
Facial masks are a go-to self-care practice that provide intense hydration along with antiaging benefits. Some of the most common facial masks use kaolin clay or apply ingredients via a soaked sheet mask. Clay masks minimize pores and draw out impurities for renewed looking skin. Some of my favorite sheet masks use hyaluronic acid, vitamin C or glycerin.
2. HydraFacial
HydraFacial is a noninvasive skin resurfacing treatment that helps improve skin texture, tone and appearance. It combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection that removes dead skin cells and impurities, while delivering moisturizing serums into the skin. The treatment improves skin health, addresses individual concerns and creates glowing skin. Unlike traditional facials, it’s performed by a device rather than by hand.
3. Microneedling
Microneedling uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of the skin. The damage helps stimulate the skin’s healing process to produce more collagen and elastin. Microdermabrasion is another option with similar results for young patients that want to avoid needles. Microdermabrasion uses a device with a rough edge to exfoliate the uppermost layer of the skin.
4. Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a traditional way to stimulate collagen production and produce healthier-looking and more radiant skin. The dermatological procedures employ specially formulated chemicals or solutions to exfoliate and rejuvenate the appearance of skin. This process jumpstarts the skin’s natural renewal mechanism, leading to a smoother, more youthful-looking complexion. Chemical peels are versatile and applicable to any skin type.
5. BBL/IPL Photofacial Treatments
Broadband (BBL) and Intense Pulsed (IPL) light therapy treatments are great for treating early signs of sun damage and aging. Light energy is used to slow oxidative stress and increases ATP production, boosting cellular function in the skin to speed repair and regeneration, leading to the stimulation of collagen, improved skin laxity and evenness of skin tone. BBL/IPL Phototherapy is a simple option for younger men wishing to address early signs of skin damage that can start to appear in their 20's such as discoloration from rosacea or sun spots, small facial veins, fine lines and wrinkles or uneven texture.
