Serum cocktails are essentially a combination of serums that are applied to the face at the same time. It sounds nice, applying four different serums to receive four different skin benefits, but that's not necessarily the case.
While some ingredients work well together, some don't and can cause more harm than good such as irritation and damage to the skin's moisture barrier.
Popsugar spoke with celebrity esthetician Renée Rouleau who explains why serum cocktails might not be the best option for your skin care routine.
Rouleau said, "Not all serums are created equally. Chemically speaking, one formula may be designed to provide delivery in a certain mechanism and another product may not have the same penetration enhancers, so if you are mixing them together you might be losing efficacy."
Instead, Rouleau recommends rotating serums by using different ones on different days.
