Spas and Suppliers Give Back in May

Melanie Rizzo, makeup artist at M for Makeup, Laura Caruso of Laura Black Makeup and Michael Stewart, donated their services to the Arthur Murray/Susan G. Komen 6th Annual Dancing With Chicago Celebrities Event in Chicago in March. The event raised money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. 708-381-9949

Solstice Day Spa in Hyannis, MA, recently donated $1,500 to Independence House, a community-based resource on Cape Cod that provides free and confidential services to empower survivors of domestic violence. The gift was raised through the raffle of spa and beauty services. 508-775-7400

Dermalogica recently teamed up with Step Up Women’s Network (SUWN), hosting more than 100 guests at its two U.S. concept spaces in Santa Monica and New York. Jane Wurwand, owner and CEO of Dermalogica and mentor for SUWN, spoke at the events, addressing the importance of mentoring youth and fostering entrepreneurship. Tweezerman’s Second Bottom Line program, which shares profits with those in need, offered several efforts in 2010, including the 2010 Paw Print Mini Slant Tweezer & Matchbox Itty Bitty Files, raising $39,403 for the Humane Society of the United States. Also, $642,475 was raised from the Precision in Pink Slant Tweezer for national and local Long Island, NY, breast cancer charities. Members of the SpaRitual team visited with the Los Angeles-based environmental nonprofit organization, TreePeople, for an afternoon of ecological and sustainability education and volunteerism. Along with hands-on activities, the team learned more about people’s physical impact on the environment.
