Julius Few, M.D., has experimented with combining the two ingredients. He theorized that CBD might lessen the irritating effects of retinol. With a water-soluble CBD concentrate, Few tested his theory in a clinical trial. The results indicated that the retinol was working with no irritation because of the CBD and the combination of the two led to decreased inflammation in the skin.

Respondents claimed the two ingredients treated a wide range of skin concerns, including acne and rosacea. It was also effective at treating hyperpigmentation in skin of color. When combined with water-soluble CBD, retinol can be used in higher concentrations, leading to more effective treatments.

Julius Few’s study was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
