The importance of electrolytes, and how they relate to skin care, has been buzzing lately. Usually associated with sport rehydration drinks, these essential minerals are also emerging as an important skin care ingredient that helps to rehydrate the skin. Important factors to consider are the source of these electrolytes and how they work together. Ingredients such as sustainably harvested seaweed contain essential electrolyte minerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, as well as a multitude of beneficial elements which, according to scientists, work together to help maintain skin’s optimal function.

Electrolytes also interact with each other, and it is in this balance that healthy bodily function is created.2 These include balancing the amount of water in your body, the body’s pH level, moving nutrients into cells, getting waste out, as well as maintaining proper function of major organs such as the heart, brain, nerves and muscles.
