MZ Skin Care, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts

Marianne Zullas, founder of MZ Skin Care, received her esthetics license from the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics in Woburn, Massachusetts, in February 2004. She opened her spa in 2006 and was awarded “Best Facial” from The Improper Bostonian’s “Boston’s Best 2014.” Zullas’s passion is to make skin care accessible and effective for everyone.

Q: How do you stay current in the constantly changing skin care industry?

A: “I always research and visit other spas for facials. I take classes throughout the year and go to at least one skin care show. I research online, and I know about other spas in my surrounding area. Here at my spa, I have monthly meetings with my team and we learn from each other’s experiences with our clients. I talk a lot and never stop asking questions.”

Choosing skin care

“I am fortunate to have moved to this country [from Brazil in 2003] and have been able to find a career that allows me to come to work every day feeling happy and excited about helping people with their skin.”

Favorite treatment

“My favorite treatment to receive is the SWiCH Dermal Rejuvenation System by Circadia by Dr. Pugliese. I have been receiving SWiCH treatments on a monthly basis and have achieved remarkable results in terms of firmness, fine lines and pigmentation.”

Overcoming obstacles

“After taking one year of English classes, I enrolled at Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics ... At that time, I was fluent in English, but I felt like I had to work harder than the other students because English wasn’t my first language.”

Client feedback

“I love to work with brides. Usually, we start treatments six months to a year before their big day. There is nothing more rewarding to me than taking a client who is concerned about her skin and turning her into a happy and confident bride.”

Skin care mentor

“All of my instructors and friends at the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics in Massachusetts [are my mentors]. They showed me how fascinating this industry is and how endless the possibilities are.”
