Ingestible skin care is quickly becoming a mainstream practice, according to a recent Lycored consumer study report.

“Ingestible skincare – once seen as a niche category – is rapidly heading for the mainstream." - Zev Ziegler, head of global brand and marketing, health at Lycored

Ingestibles Become Mainstream

The study interviewed 480 British and French consumers about their opinions on taking a supplement for their skin. Of the people surveyed, 66% agreed with the statement “the idea of taking a supplement for skin health or beauty is normal”, where only 14% said that the idea was “not normal.”

Barriers to the Market

In addition, the survey took a look at what barriers the ingestible market has. Among the people that have never taken a pill for skin care, 46% of them said the main reason was “it seemed more sense to apply a product to my skin.” Additionally, 32% of the respondents said that they were simply unaware that they could achieve the similar results with a pill.

“Ingestible skincare – once seen as a niche category – is rapidly heading for the mainstream. Consumers, particularly those under the age of 35, are increasingly recognizing the benefits of supplementation for healthy, resilient skin. There’s a very clear generational shift in favor of ingestible skincare, and with further work to inform consumers we can achieve even more,” said Zev Ziegler, head of global brand and marketing, health at Lycored.
