Rethinking How We Do Business

In many of our past issues, we’ve discussed the constant need to reinvent and rethink the way that you do business in today’s market. Not one to rest on its laurels, Skin Inc. magazine is acting on its own advice. I’m fresh off the plane from Face & Body® 2009, which took place in San Jose, California, and I personally declare it to be a huge success. What made it such a success doesn’t necessarily lie in the record-breaking numbers, but more so in the quality and value of the experience. This year, the show team offered some new networking experiences, and attendees loved it! Following is a brief recap—a more in-depth feature on the show will run in the October 2009 issue.

  • Face & Body 2009 offered a sold-out Spa Tour highlighting three San Jose-area spas: Ayoma LifeSpa in the Hotel Valencia, Beautiful By Design Spa, and Tova Day Spa at the Fairmont Hotel. Watch for an expanded Spa Tour in 2010.

  • The Networking Luncheon, sponsored by Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc., also sold out, and this event allowed attendees to network and share business ideas while enjoying a delicious lunch.

  • Winery Tour and Tastings, sponsored by Éminence Organic Skin Care, was another hot networking event. A group of approximately 70 attendees toured Loma Prieta Winery in Los Gatos, California, and Silver Mountain Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Plans are already underway for Face & Body 2010, which returns to the San Jose McEnery Convention Center July 17–19, 2010. Mark your calendar!

... And our big announcement

I am happy to announce the repositioning of our Chicago show, America’s Expo for Skin Care & Spa®(AESCS) to Face & Body Midwest. Face & Body Midwest will be co-located with America’s Beauty Show®, scheduled to be held March 27–29, 2010, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Since 2002, Skin Inc. magazine and Cosmetologists Chicago® (CC) have co-sponsored and co-produced AESCS, the Midwest’s only expo dedicated to skin care and spa. The repositioning to Face & Body Midwest addresses the many changes in the skin care and spa market since the initial launch of AESCS seven years ago.

Although Skin Inc. magazine will have sole ownership of Face & Body Midwest, the event will be sponsored by the American Association for Esthetics (AAE), the esthetic arm of CC. Face & Body is a highly regarded, prestigious industry event that has brought industry professionals and suppliers together for more than 17 years.

Be sure to visit www.FaceandBody.com for breaking news on both events. And please let me know how you have been reinventing the way you do business; I’d love to hear your stories: [email protected].

Until next time,

Melinda Taschetta-Millane, Editor in Chief
