Build your team for the busy holiday season. Ten industry experts were asked their favorite interview question. Here are #10things you can ask during the hiring process to acquire top talent.

  1. “What do you value most in life and why?” This is a great way to find out if their values align with the company’s core values.
    –Vito Mazzo Jr., president of Vito Mazzo Salon & Spa (Woodbridge, NJ)
  2. “What is your favorite skin care product and why?” I want to be the customer while they sell it to me. See how comfortable they are with the process and speaking on their feet.

  3. “Tell me about a time when you exceeded your client’s expectations.” I like giving the applicant time to brag about themselves; it shows me how confident they are with opening up to guests.

  4. “What gives your soul juice?” I love finding out what gives people their drive.

  5. “What are your thoughts on teamwork and professional community?” It helps to understand how people get along with others and what drives them…especially in a commission environment where teamwork is important.

  6. “Where do you see yourself in five years?” You can gauge if their goals and priorities are in line with those of your company.

  7. “How will working with our company move you towards your career goals?” It tells me if they did their research on our company and have an authentic interest.

  8. “What is the biggest inspiration you have for entering this industry?” I want to see where they are in their life and their ambition.

  9. “What is your favorite thing about this business and how will you contribute to the business?” This helps me determine which candidates want a job and which candidates want THIS position.
