For six years, Brown was the lead advanced educator at Atelier Esthétique Institute of Esthetics in New York, and created the first paramedical esthetics curriculum for New York and international certification through International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC). In 2011, Brown opened Harlem Skin & Laser Clinic, a boutique skin care center serving women and men.

Q: Why did you choose the skin care industry?

A: “I saw an opportunity to inspire people, mostly women, in a way that matters. Let’s face it, most people see their flaws first. I am determined to create an atmosphere of inspiration and acceptance that pushes women past that into self-love and success, which creates a world of infinite possibilities for each and every one.”

Favorite treatment

“Clinical facials usually come with a unique set of challenges. Those clients are definitely looking for results to specific conditions. Problem solving is my strength. ”

Staying current

“Staying current for me is really about digesting everything I can get my hands on in print, online, at shows and through plenty of research.”

Skin care mentor

“Annette [Hanson] was my employer at Atelier Esthétique for many years. She inspired me to be the best possible esthetician and educator ... Tracey [Beyer]—she has been my friend for many years ... She showed me the ropes at the beginning of my career ...”

Client feedback

“The top three things I hear from clients is that: they are learning about their skin because we give them a lot of information; they are feeling better about themselves or issues related to skin; and the facility is beautiful.”

Finding inspiration

“My children and my grandson inspire me, knowing that I’m leaving something for them after I’m gone.”
