Face & Body® Northern California 2014 Get in Touch With the New Massage Area

It is our goal as the show organizers of Face & Body Northern California Spa Conference & Expo to ensure that we continually bring attendees cutting-edge education, products and networking opportunities. As we explored ways to grow these opportunities for our attendees, the need to incorporate massage education and products to the show floor became apparent. At this year’s Face & Body, held August 23–25, 2014, at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, we have joined forces with Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) and Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) to launch the Massage Area, a dedicated massage and education section on the show floor.

According to the 2013 U.S. Spa Industry Study from the International SPA Association (ISPA), 88% of spas provide massage services and 75% offer body services. Also, through a recent internal survey, the Face & Body team discovered that approximately 70% of Face & Body attendees offer massage services, and 62% are responsible for supplying equipment within their spa. The dedicated Massage Area will be located on the show floor, and will feature a variety of products and services for massage professionals and spa owners.

Earn up to 2 CEUs* during Massage Area classes

If you are from a neighboring state that requires massage continuing education units (CEUs), the free education sessions developed by ABMP that are taking place in the Massage Area can meet your needs! Available to all attendees, these classes include “Safe Stone Massage,” featuring ABMP’s Brian Halterman, which explains common mistakes therapists make that can cost them big bucks; and “Ripped From the Headlines,” featuring ABMP’s Cindy Williams, which addresses shocking liability claims and what they can teach you about your practice. Biotone is sponsoring a free class for one CEU titled, “Wow Factor—Designing Spa Treatments,” which will teach you how to diversify existing treatments and custom design new ones.

Also, supplier classes will be available, including “Migraine Miracle Cold Stone Therapy,” featuring Kelly Lott, a nationally certified massage instructor. This innovative treatment was designed specifically for massage therapists and spa practitioners who want to offer their clients an alternative and dramatic relief treatment for all kinds of headaches. And industry leaders in massage and bodywork, Performance Health, Bon Vital and Bio Freeze are sponsoring demo classes, as well.

These sessions will be offered on Sunday and Monday during the trade show. Visit em>www.FaceandBody.com/california/massage for specific times.

Massage products to mull over

In addition to the educational opportunities, you’ll have a chance to visit suppliers that are eager to provide product knowledge, as well as new product and service offerings. You can shop, compare and learn how you might be able to incorporate massage menu items into your spa business in order to get in touch with and enhance your overall client experience! Spa owners: Bring your massage therapists, and the decision-makers on your team to work together on how to improve your business offerings for future success!
