There is a lot to be said for the power of networking, and although social networking certainly has its place in the skin care industry, nothing can compare to connecting with fellow professionals face-to-face.

Face-to-face

Face & Body® Northern California Spa Conference and Expo’s entire show has been built around face-to-face networking, and continuing and enhancing professional education. This year’s Advanced Education Conference Program runs a full day on Saturday, August 27, from 9:30 AM–5 PM, and boasts an impressive lineup of speakers. It also will include a 90-minute networking lunch, giving attendees a break during learning to touch base with their peers, and gain new tips and techniques for business success. “We were surprised how much networking we actually accomplished at our luncheon table last year,” says Vicki Criswell, director of esthetics at the College of Hair Design, Lincoln, Nebraska, who attended last year’s conference and networking events with several of her teammates. “Teaching and learning from everyone … we really were able to expand our horizons at this event.”

Salon Déjà vu Spa owner Jo Cameron of Hollister, California, also got a lot out of last year’s conference and expo—on both the networking and the education end. “I came home from the conference and hit the ground running!” she states. “I really enjoyed Face & Body last year. It met my needs on several levels ... the Advanced Education Conference Program continued to stimulate my brain’s hunger for more knowledge on the science behind skin care. The program was one of the main reasons I attended the conference.” This year’s networking lunch is going to feature some exclusive and very exciting announcements and unveilings regarding Skin Inc. magazine, so it’s definitely a day that you are not going to want to miss!

The opportunity to network at this year’s event will continue into the evening with an optional tour of Vine Hill Winery located in the Santa Cruz Mountains at 5:30 PM, sponsored by Eminence Organic Skin Care. The winery, located in the heart of the mountains within the historic Vine Hill District that was established in 1867, is dedicated to carrying on the tradition of creating artisan wines while supporting and using sustainable vineyard and winery practices.

Attendees at last year’s winery tour agreed that networking was a valuable part of this experience, and they were glad they didn’t pass up. “Last year’s winery tour was great. It was such a beautiful evening, definitely was worth the bus ride to see Alfred Hitchcock’s summer home,” says Criswell. “Would we do it again? YYYEEESSS. We were able to rub elbows and share thoughts and ideas with the Skin Inc. and Face & Body team members, which we felt was so unbelievable. Our students couldn’t believe it when we got back!”

Medical esthetics

Due to the overwhelming success of the Medical Esthetics Summit in 2010, Face & Body Northern California is offering it again in 2011, as well as adding a Medical Esthetics Pavilion on the show floor to complement the conference. The summit, produced by Skin Inc. magazine and True University Esthetics, and sponsored by Circadia by Dr. Pugliese, is designed to help estheticians and practitioners working in a medical setting or those looking to expand into this specialized area. Learn everything from emerging medical esthetic trends to the latest on stem cell research. The summit is moderated by Terri Wojak, director of True University Esthetics in Chicago, and is yet another great opportunity being offered at the show to network with other professionals who are facing the same issues and challenges as you. What better way to learn than by sharing experiences with others?
