An interesting facial treatment has surfaced in the celebrity world, promoted by the likes of Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock. While the name may seem graphic, "the penis facial" was performed by New York City esthetician Georgia Louise at Georgia Louise Atelier.

So...What Is It?

Properly called The Hollywood EGF Facial, this treatment has now been nicknamed the penis facial for one specific reason. Georgia Louise explains on her website that the Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) serum used in this treatment is created from the cells of the human fibroblast that is taken from Korean newborn baby foreskin.

This treatment begins with a facial cleanse, which is followed up by a TCA peel, microneedling machine and an electrifying mask to calm the skin. Finally the EGF serum is deeply applied to the skin through the use of a special electric microneedling wand.

The use of Korean newborn baby foreskin is designed to help generate collagen and elastin for an anti-aging facial. This treatment retails for $650, and is quickly growing in popularity among celebrities.

Understand the Penis Facial

This all seems a little eccentric, so it is important to know whether the science is there or not. Stem cells are often used in the esthetic industry, and The Sun explains that young stem cells are believed to activate aging cells. This can help with collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

These progenitor cells that are collected are further manufactured in a lab to become the skin cells that are then used in the serum itself.

IFLScience continues to explain how "The theory goes that adding stem cells to the dermal layer rejuvenates skin because it is effectively introducing new tissue, thus making one's complexion appear younger. The process is also thought to release chemicals that aid aging cells, again, making them appear younger."

The answer to why specifically Korean foreskin has nothing to do with the ever popular K-Beauty skin care trends. It is simply because it is custom for baby boys there to be circumcised, so in a sense, they have plenty to go around.
