Groupon Survey Shows Spa Market is Still Challenging

Although a recent survey reveals that the spa market is challenging, the majority of spa owners are confident that 2013 will show improvement.

The survey of 180 spas conducted by the discount deal-of-the-day website Groupon showed that 68% of spa owners are confident they will bring in higher revenue in 2013 as compared to 2012, despite saying they have felt no positive turn in their business since 2010.

The market is still challenging, with 57% of spa owners saying their revenue was either lower (15.9%) or relatively unchanged (42%) compared with 2011.

Despite this, operators are remaining upbeat, with more than one third remarking that marketing and promotions are the key to success. Meanwhile, 23% of respondents said education was a key area. According to the survey, most spa customers use spa services because they are stressed (40.5 %) and 36% have reported back and sports injury pain.
