Do You Want to Learn More About How to Become a Green Spa?

The University of California, Irvine Extension is offering a new online course titled, “Fundamentals of Green Spas, Hotels and Resorts” starting on Nov. 1. Taught by spa industry expert Janice Gronvold, a UC Irvine Extension Spa and Hospitality Management advisory board member and founder of Spectrec, provider of business and marketing development services for the spa, hospitality and healthy lifestyle industries, the six-week intensive course will provide a comprehensive guide to incorporating sustainability in a spa environment.

“As the spa industry is constantly evolving, this course is perfect for spa, hotel and resort professionals tasked with implementing environmentally sensitive business practices,” says Gronvold. “Having the right knowledge and tools to develop green business models that improve the bottom line sets a company apart as a top-notch, forward-thinking business.”

Participants taking the course will gain insights on operational and management practices that serve as fundamentals for green spas. Other topics that will be covered include: international greening trends in the spa industry, green business terminology, green building programs in the spa and hospitality industries, and green procurement. At the end of the course, students will understand the criteria and benefits for selecting building materials, furnishings, equipment products, waste management systems, and all aspects of operations and ongoing maintenance.

“With the growing importance of implementing sustainable business practices into the spa industry, our spa courses are developed by industry-leading experts deeply embracing this practice,” said Angela Jeantet, director of UC Irvine Extension’s spa programs. “Participants will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on skills that come straight from the industry’s highly-experienced experts.”
