America's Expo 2009/America's Beauty Show Announce SalonSpa Sustainability Summit Chair

Luz Segovia, president of Cosmetologists Chicago® (CC), the owners and producers of America’s Beauty Show®, the foremost event for salon professionals in the world, has appointed Mary Beth Janssen of The Janssen Source to lead the association committee planning the 2nd Annual SalonSpa Sustainability Summit™, during America’s Beauty Show, March 28-30, 2009.

“Mary Beth is the perfect chairperson for this committee and will bring enormous expertise to this event,” noted Segovia in making the announcement. “She has been a member of Cosmetologists Chicago for many years and has a leading reputation among her peers in the area of professional and personal well being and commitment to the environment.”

Mary Beth Janssen speaks regularly at prestigious events worldwide—and has shared the stage with the likes of Mic Fleetwood, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Bob Greene, Suze Orman—amongst others. She is an editor and writer for several media outlets and serves as a beauty and wellness resource for several magazines, including Natural Health Magazine, Self, Vegetarian Times, and Alternative Medicine magazine. Mary Beth has a specialization as an organic beauty and lifestyle expert, and has been intimately involved in the development and launch of several organic beauty companies. As a writer, author and educator, she can speak to organic, sustainable living in all its many facets: physical, environmental, and spiritual.

America’s Beauty Show was the first to introduce the concept of a SalonSpa Sustainability Summit at the 2008 event in Chicago. The standing-room only Summit was enthusiastically welcomed by professionals and exhibitors alike.

Cosmetologists Chicago Belief Statement on Sustainability

Sustainability, as viewed by Cosmetologists Chicago, an association of 5,000 salon professionals, incorporates and integrates three key elements specifically for the salon industry – continued economic development to sustain our businesses, social progress to support and protect our communities and an active and involved concern for the environment that will maintain the earth as we know it. Sustainability is what will enable future generations to live a quality life at least on par with what we enjoy today.

Cosmetologists Chicago is committed to these three pillars of sustainability and will bring together the best of the salon and spa industry for discussion on how each and every salon professional, salon owner, and manufacturer can participate.

Plans are in process to expand the Summit in 2009, incorporating leading companies involved in the green and organic movements as well as those experienced in the various salon business aspects of maintaining a sustainable—yet profitable—salon or spa.
