The Road to Healthy Skin Tour
Posted: May 8, 2009
During last year’s Road to Healthy Skin tour, the Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF) found more than 3,200 suspected skin cancers and more than 39 suspected cases of melanoma.
As you may know, May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and last week, numerous consumers turned out to the Grand Central Terminal area for the official kick-off of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s “Road to Healthy Skin” Tour Presented by Aveeno and Rite Aid. The tour will visit more than 80 locations throughout the country through September 2009 and offer free, full-body skin cancer screenings in a private room inside a 38-foot customized RV, conducted by local board-certified dermatologists who have volunteered their time and expertise.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 1 million cases diagnosed annually. However, 40% of people admit that they never use sunscreen and only 11% use an SPF 15 or higher daily. Skin cancer is also the most preventable and curable form of cancer if it is detected early.
This tour will visit more than 80 cities at 100 different locations throughout the country to educate people about the importance of an annual skin check with their physician, and get the message out that it is crucial for everyone, no matter their skin color, to practice sun safety. More than 10,000 people are expected to be screened during the entire tour. Find out when the “Road to Healthy Skin” Tour is coming to a city near you.
