Giving Lip: Are the Services Worth It?

LipTreatments_425

It’s not surprising that full lips are an obsession for many women. We are continuously reminded by the perfection we see on social media and on reality TV stars who have a lot of money to achieve fuller lips. In fact, many women spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to achieve the perfect pout.

Full lips are known to be a key facial feature that attracts the opposite sex. Thinner lips are considered an aging feature even if you were born with them. Overall, full lips are generally considered more attractive, more sensual and more youthful in appearance. Many women in Hollywood use their time and money to enhance their lips because they know it makes them more appealing on camera.

Not all women are not blessed with the perfect set of lips, and the good news is that there are things women can do to enhance their lips. Successful treatments stimulate the lips’ natural collagen production and are a great add-on service to a spa treatment. In fact, they deserve the attention and a lot of extra-loving care.

What’s New in Lip Services?

Lip injections are starting to take a back seat to all the new lip volumizing services available in salons and spas. Microneedling, microcurrent, lip masks with lip plumping ingredients and lip peels are just some of the services spas can offer to enhance the client’s pout.

Microneedling

If a client is mostly concerned with deep smoker lines and creases or expression lines, then microneedling is the perfect solution. Microneedling the lip area is done with tiny needles that are rolled across the skin with a dermaroller to slightly injure it and produce collagen.

To effectively microneedle the lips, you actually want to treat the skin around them. The skin around the lips has a large effect on the elasticity and the positioning of the lips so it’s important to keep it plumped and smooth.

The actual lips are very sensitive with a lot of nerve endings, blood vessels and can erupt in cold sores so this is why I recommend always treating the skin around the lips with 0.05mm to 1.5mm dermaroller, but keep in mind, numbing this area one hour before the service is always more comfortable for the client. Suggested pricing for this service can range from $65 ̶ $95 as an addition to a facial service or $165 as a standalone service.

Microcurrent

When a client’s concern is their down-turned mouth in which they appear mad or unhappy due to lip muscle drooping, then microcurrent is a great solution. The microcurrent service for the lip enhancement delivers targeted facial and muscle stimulation to revive the shrinking tissue of the lips.

Microcurrent needs to be done consistently as the results are cumulative just like exercise, so consistency will pay off for the client long term.

Microcurrent works to exercise the muscles, thereby toning the skin as well as stimulating the collagen production through adenosine triphosphate (ATP) energy. The microcurrent applied to the lip area provides a temporary engorgement of the lips from the electrical stimulation of blood flow so it is perfect to do this service for a special event.

Lip Masks

Many clients will complain of dry, cracked lips which can make them look thin from chronic dehydration. Lip masks are a great solution to this concern as they have multi-benefits. In addition, lip masks are an easy addition to add on to a facial appointment for a client who wants enhanced lips. Lip Masks have nourishing, collagen-stimulating ingredients, such as peptides, along with lip-plumping ingredients like menthol, camphor, liquid niacin or cinnamon leaf oil. These ingredients increase blood flow to the lip capillaries resulting in fuller lips.

Typically, an in-spa lip mask treatment is always going to be an addition to a facial and will cost around $25.

Lip Peels

Clients who have mild-moderate photo-aging (think discoloration) of the lip area would be a great candidate for lip peels. These peels work in a slightly different way than what many traditionally think of when considering a chemical peel.

The peels created for lips are designed to restrain the acid activity until it is absorbed fully into the skin, thereby focusing on remodeling from inside the skin and enhancing its activity. There is little surface trauma to the skin as the treatment works under the surface layers of the skin, which means the client can carry on with the day as normal.

The results are cumulative, getting better and better week after week, gradually rebuilding, regenerating and renewing the skin. The type of ingredients found in these peels is lactic acid and trichloracetic acid (TCA) in combination with peptides.

Lactic acid is the key as it prevents the area from drying out and feeling uncomfortable. It is important with stimulating peels that the client considers going on an anti-cold sore medication for preventative measures. Typically, an in-spa lip peel service can range from $95 ̶ $150 as a standalone service.

No Magic Fix

With all the technology in our amazing beauty industry, there are plenty of options for spa clients to achieve the perfect pout. These services take time and commitment as there is no such thing as a magic fix so keep expectations based in reality.

However, offering lip-enhancing services lets clients know you are on top of trends and the latest technology. Stay innovative and true to your brand by choosing the services that fit your spa. Be sure to market lip enhancing services on social media because it is one of the easiest ways to get the word out in a cost-effective manner.

Enjoy helping your clients love their lips!
