Gemstones have been used for thousands of years to promote health and beauty. They have recently seen a resurgence in the spa market with more integration of Eastern wellness practices. They can be incorporated into a number of treatments easily, but show particular promise in anti-aging, where they can infuse added energy.

Crystals and Energy

The energy from crystals and gemstones vary based on type. Many gemstone tools on the market today are designed specifically for use during facials, but they can be adapted for home care use as well.

In a 2015 Skin Inc. article, Elina Fedotova, licensed esthetician and CEO of Elina Organics, noted that crystals are traditionally placed over energy centers or chakras.

“The seven chakras of the body are associated with different colors that can be used to guide the skin care professional’s choice of gemstones during a treatment,” she said.

It is believed that gemstones hold their own energy, which is then transferred to an individual when placed on certain chakras, such as the root (first chakra), sacral (second chakra), heart (fourth chakra), third eye (sixth chakra) and crown (seventh chakra). Gemstone rollers, spheres and wands can assist in facial massage while simultaneously providing healing energy.

Gemstones and Anti-Aging

“The energetic patterns of gems can also be combined with other valuable anti-aging organic nutrients extracted from whole organic plants and minerals to create an almost unlimited number of very effective products,” said Fedotova. “The vibrational properties of those creams work synergistically with the organic phytonutrients to achieve superior corrective results.”

Gemstones can also be infused in water to create an elixir as part of a refreshing spa drink or cooling face wash. Gemstones with anti-aging properties include:

  • Amethyst
  • Aquamarine
  • Black tourmaline
  • Clear quartz
  • Fluorite
  • Labradorite
  • Rose quartz

“Remember to stay in a positive, calm and harmonious state of mind while performing the gemstone facial,” Fedotova said. “If skin care professionals are stressed or imbalanced, those feelings can be transferred to your clients.”
