Giving Back: The Spa Industry Raises Breast Cancer Awareness

The spa industry bands together this month raising funds in a variety of ways to help increase breast cancer awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Following are only some of the companies who have contributed in some way.

Employees from Dermalogica participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Proceeds from the event went to the funding of breast cancer research. The company also recently teamed up for a special event with Pink-Link, a nonprofit organization that assists the needs of women living with cancer. 800-831-5150
 
Creative Nail Design
employees are recruiting for a team, “Beauty and the Breast,” to walk in the Susan G. Komen San Diego 3-Day Walk in November. In its contribution to the fight against breast cancer, Éminence Organic Skin Care began a program in April where, for every purchase of its Sweet Red Rose Whip Moisturizer, it will donate $5 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. To help raise funds and awareness for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, which ensures those facing breast cancer are not alone, online beauty resource Pretty City announced the return of its Pretty in Pink charity promotion. Through the promotion, participating spas around the country have made a preset donation and offer a variety of treatments for just $31. , producers of eco-friendly soy candles, has joined with Boarding 4 Breast Cancer in an effort to help fight the disease. Selling products such as pink sweatshirts and pink nail polish, Spa Shiki at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, MO, is donating 10% of the sales of its pink products sold during October to breast cancer awareness organizations. The spa also encouraged its clients to wear pink in a recent promotion and donated 10% of its sales for each guest wearing the cause’s signature color. 800-843-5253

Matt Stearn, direct marketing manager for derma e Bodycare, recently participated in the 14th Annual Entertainment Industry Foundation Revlon Run/Walk for Women in an effort to help raise money for women’s cancer research. To honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, as well as raise funds for those still battling the disease, OPI has introduced a new pink nail lacquer called Pink of Hearts, which was created to benefit the Susan G. hosted its 8th annual Massage-a-Thon and Cut-a-Thon, as well as the annual Race for the Cure Raffle and Silent Auctions, with proceeds from the events going to benefit the Orange Country affiliate of the Susan G. Also donating services, money, time and effort to the fight against breast cancer, Mario Tricoci Hair Salons and Day Spas provided goody bags to attendees of area breakfasts for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and hosted a survivor’s tent at the walk itself, providing consultations and services to survivors.
