People running the Boston Marathon

The Melanoma Foundation of New England is raising money for their Boston Marathon team, Running for Cover, in an effort to educate people on melanoma and ways to prevent the skin cancer.

On & Off the Track

To prepare for the marathon, the team follows a diet plan, cross-trains and competes in training runs. For motivation, members of Running for Cover use their fundraising commitment to keep going and training

In addition to the run, team members will reach out to friends and family to spread awareness about early detection of melanoma during the marathon season.

“Each runner’s connection to melanoma is unique: Some runners are melanoma survivors; some have a family member of friend who is undergoing treatment for the disease.” —Amy Mason

Running With Purpose

Commenting on the connection the runners have with melanoma, Amy Mason, event & program manager of Melanoma Foundation of New England, said, “Each runner’s connection to melanoma is unique. Some runners are melanoma survivors, some have a family member of friend who is undergoing treatment for the disease.”

The Boston Marathon will take place on April 17, 2017, and it is estimated that 30,000 runners will participate. To learn more about the team and to contribute, visit them at their fundraising site www.crowdrise.com/mfne
