The Skin Games Makeup Challenge at Skin Inc.'s Face & Body kicks off at Face & Body Northern California on August 27-28.

Skin Inc. spoke to some of the competitors to learn more about themselves and the category they will be going brush-to-brush in.

Corrective

Britlee Penney is a licensed esthetician, professional makeup artist and owner of La Vita è Bella in Montana. Her love for anything skin care and makeup related is what drove her to her dream career that she is in now.

"...it’s important for people with problematic skin to feel just as beautiful.” —Britlee Penney

“I also get to work with a lot of different ages that struggle with acne breakouts, and I feel it’s important for people with problematic skin to feel just as beautiful,” said Penney. She will be participating in the corrective category on Sunday, as well as the bridal category on Monday.

Brianna Knight is the education program assistant for Universal Companies’ Wellness & Beauty Learning Center in Los Angeles. She began in the industry at 20 years old and uses her personal experiences with sensitive skin to incorporate skin care into makeup.

Some of her favorite makeup brands include NARS for a perfect natural or glam look and Ben Nye for working with deeper skin tones. This will be the first time Knight is participating in a competition and is excited about the challenge. She will be in the corrective category, along with the avant-garde category on Monday.

Glam/Avant-Garde

Frank Yanez recently started in the makeup industry after learning through popular YouTube tutorials. He also received his makeup certificate from the AJF Academy in Sacremento and is currently working with photographers, models and designers to build his portfolio.

"...the looks in this category have the opportunity to show makeup from another point of view by creating art on a person...like painting on a canvas." —Frank Yanez

“I simply want to have fun doing what I love with makeup," said Yanez. "I chose this category because I feel like the looks in this category have the opportunity to show makeup from another point of view by creating art on a person...like painting on a canvas.” He will be participating in the second section of this category on Monday.

Bridal

Jen Siqueiros originally began her career in the construction industry as a project engineer before entering the world of makeup. "I have always dabbled in makeup and did makeup for my friends and family," said Siqueiros. "I saw an online makeup contest, did some makeup on my sister, entered and was one of the winners.”

After the win, she decided to leave the construction business and enroll in Smashbox’s makeup training in Culver City and is now a licensed esthetician. Siqueiros is excited to meet other competitors and hopes to meet connections during the competition. She will be in the first section of the bridal category on Sunday.

Kylee McDonald typically does eyelash extensions in Walnut Creek, California, but also is a licensed esthetician. She recently began practicing microblading to expand her expertise. In the second section of the bridal category, McDonald will be using a friend from beauty school for her model that has always helped her practice her bridal looks. She expects to compete against strong competitors and is excited to participate in the challenge. Her favorite makeup brands include Hour Glass Cosmetics, Smashbox, Huda Beauty and Anastasia Beverly Hills.
