As wellness professionals, it can be easy to forget how impactful the power of touch can be. Cheryl Nichols, keynote speaker for Day 2 at Face & Body Spa Conference & Expo Northern California, says a former client is responsible for reminding her of the power of touch and for changing the trajectory of her career.

“The physical and emotional change we can create through touch is massive ... We have an enormous responsibility to honor and recognize the vulnerability in receiving touch.” — Cheryl Nichols, Day 2 Keynote Speaker, Face & Body Northern California

“He was a widower and would come in once a week for a manicure just so he could have someone ‘hold his hand.’ We are increasingly getting deeper into a world that is removing human contact—good, positive touch. We need to take the word ‘treat’ out of treatment and give permission to our guests and ourselves to receive touch without guilt, but to receive with thanks,” she explained.

As executive director of spa development of Gene Juarez Salons & Spas, Nichols will discuss how to respect the gift of touch and use it to improve your connection with clientele during her keynote presentation on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Face & Body Northern California.

“The physical and emotional change we can create through touch is massive,” she said. “Therefore, as spa professionals, we have an enormous responsibility to honor and recognize the vulnerability in receiving touch.”

Nichols began her career in esthetics 25 years ago and has been a trainer with global brands. Most notably, Nichols spent 15 years with Aveda launching global curriculums and worked closely with Aveda’s research and development teams to create skin and body concepts as well as new product development.
