Industry legend Robert Diemer passed away at 12:12 pm EST., April 9, 2009. He died from pneumonia and will be missed by all in the industry.
Diemer 's dream began to unfold as early as 1969 when, after extensive travel and training under such masters as Mark Traynor, Way Bandy, Christine Valmy and Christine Shaw of London, he began to grasp the feeling that was quickly becoming apparent in the esthetic community. Where was it going? What was the future? What now? Diemer had the notion to improve education and the quality of the profession, and increase public awareness and acceptance.
The dream became reality after years of research and development when, in 1976, the doors were opened to the American Institute of Esthetics. Estheticians from all over the world were invited to hear Diemer speak and discuss his new concepts on corrective skin care. He also was one of the founders of the skin care line Prescription Plus.
In 1983, Diemer was approached by the Long Beach Hairdressers Guild, Inc., to establish an esthetic congress for its 41st Annual LBHG Beauty and Trade Show. In January of 1984, the First Esthetic Congress was held in Long Beach, California, where Diemer brought speakers from all over the world to lecture and educate on a national level.
Diemer was the founding president of the Aestheticians International Association in California and, in 1982, he was appointed to HairAmerica. In 1983, he was given the title of the first esthetic section director for HairAmerica, and became the founding chairman of EstheticsAmerica.
